ALAMOSA — There may never be closure in the presumed homicide of a man last seen alive last summer at the McDonald’s in Alamosa and believed to have been killed shortly afterwards, Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Michael Dougherty said during a recent visit to Alamosa.

The DA’s office in Jefferson County was involved in the case, according to Dougherty who was in Alamosa campaigning for attorney general.

California resident John C. Cizek, 71, who had come to Colorado to pan for gold, went missing last summer after last being recorded on the security camera at the Alamosa McDonald’s.

Cizek was seen leaving the McDonalds at 100 Craft Drive in Alamosa at 12:30 p.m. on June 12, 2016. At 10:30 p.m. on June 12, Cizek’s RV was seen at a gas station in Hooper on Highway 285. Cizek had been traveling in a 2016 Minnie Winnie Winnebago.

His RV was later recovered in an RV park in Golden, but the whereabouts of Cizek has remained a mystery.

Dougherty said it is believed that a man named David Edward Little, 40, who had been working in the Alamosa area, was with Cizek in Alamosa on June 12 and likely killed Cizek before taking his RV out of the area. Little also subsequently used Cizek’s credit cards at numerous places in Golden, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, and Lakewood, according to the Jefferson County DA’s office.

The DA’s office believe that on the day Cizek went missing, June 12, Little attended church in Alamosa about 10:30 a.m. and subsequently encountered Cizek after he had eaten lunch at McDonald’s and returned to his RV, which he had parked in the nearby Big R parking lot. According to the Jefferson County DA’s office, at 2 p.m. Little was in Alamosa’s Ace Hardware just west of McDonalds, where he purchased a shovel, tarp, and hose — items that investigators later found in Cizek’s RV.

Also according to information from the Jefferson County DA’s office, at 3:30 p.m. Cizek’s RV was checked into the Sand Dunes RV Park; Little attended a barbecue at the gator farm (where he had been working) from 6-8 p.m.; at 10 p.m. the RV left the dunes RV park; and at 10:30 p.m. Little was observed filling the RV with gas at a gas station in Hooper.

On June 14, 2016, Little and Cizek’s RV were seen at the King Soopers in Conifer and he was also seen driving the RV, pulling an empty trailer, on that date at a Sinclair gas station in Fairplay.

Investigators believe that on June 12 and June 14, Little traveled to and from the west metro Denver area and Alamosa on Hwy. 285.

Between June 13th and 21st, Little was in the west metro area and used Cizek’s credit cards at numerous locations.

In a shoot-out with Golden police on June 21, Little was arrested on a sexual assault charge, Dougherty said.

After his arrest, Little provided information to police which led them to Cizek’s RV in Golden.

On September 14, Little was charged with the first-degree murder of Cizek.

However, before he could provide information about where Cizek’s body might be, Little was found dead in his jail cell in the Jefferson County Jail on October 4, a presumed suicide, Dougherty explained.

“It is unfortunate because no one got justice,” Dougherty said.

He added that efforts are still being made to locate Cizek’s body to give his family closure, and anyone who might have information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

“We believe his body is still in Alamosa County,” Dougherty said, “and we have been part of the search efforts with law enforcement.”
