Stampede committee addresses MV council

MONTE VISTA—Karla Willschau, president of the Ski Hi Stampede Committee, attended the Thursday, March 1 Monte Vista City Council meeting. Willschau’s main topic of conversation was to seek the city’s approval and help regarding improvements the committee would like to make to the Ski Hi Stampede grounds.

Willschau stated that the committee is interested in installing a handicap ramp on the west side of the main grandstands to improve access. The stampede committee also believes the south fence needs to be replaced.

The Monte Vista City Council expressed their immediate willingness to work with the committee to make the updates and improvements possible in a short time frame. The council also thanked Willshchau and the stampede committee for all their tireless work every year and for investing time in the community’s most significant event.

Willschau was also proud to announce that Ski Hi Stampede was nominated as one of the top five small PRCA rodeos of the year. Willshau said she believes the nomination shows the great spirit, hard work and support that goes into Colorado’s oldest professional rodeo every year.

The Ski Hi Stampede Committee is gearing up for the 96th Ski Hi Stampede this summer. However, they also have their eyes four years into the future. In 2021 Stampede will mark its 100th anniversary. Willschau said the committee is working hard to make the 100th year very special, large and memorable.
