Songwriters McAfee and Jacobs-Strain to appear at Society Hall

ALAMOSA — Society Hall, at 400 Ross Avenue in Alamosa, is excited to present Oregon singer-songwriters Michelle McAfee and David Jacobs-Strain in concert Friday, September 28th at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, or $20 at the door, and are available online at www.societyhall.org, or in Alamosa at the Green Spot at 711 State Ave.

David Jacobs-Strain will open the show. David is a nationally touring slide guitar player, singer-songwriter and storyteller; he first played the Newport Folk Festival at nineteen years old and has since toured with Boz Scaggs, Etta James, The Doobie Brothers, and Lucinda Williams. David plays a virtuosic, percussive style of slide guitar rooted in the blues, and writes stories in the tradition of John Prine, Todd Snider, and Steven Stills. David is working on a new record with Colorado music legend Kenny Passarelli.

Michelle McAfee is an Americana Folk songstress with a way of weaving unforgettable melodies into vivid stories. Born with a fierce love of mountains and wanderlust, McAfee infuses her songwriting with a sense of place and adventure. “I’ve always been inspired by wilderness, wild people and wild places…… I love belonging to a wide community of people who live creatively, live a little on the edge.” She is based in Oregon where she has recorded two albums with a third in progress.

Michelle has opened shows for major acts such as The Indigo Girls, G Love & Special Sauce, Jewel and wrote & recorded music for Shelley Niro’s film “Kissed By Lightning.” A passion for environmental and social justice issues comes through in her work and has also led her to co-create the artist collective One Soul, which takes music and art into prisons. Her previous musical career as a staff songwriter for publishers in Nashville and Los Angeles (Warner-Chappell, Sony/Maypop Music, Bluewater Music) honed her writing skills and continues to impact her current work: heartfelt songs driven by sweet hooks and smart stories.

Michelle and David will each play their own sets, and back each other up on lead guitar, mandolin and harmonies. They’ll also sneak in some of the swampy grooves like “Slow Train” and “Biscuits and Gravy” they have made up on the road together. They hope that San Luis Valley music lovers can join them for an evening of fun and passionate music!

The board of Society Hall, a 501c-3 non-profit organization, invites you to another great musical evening with Michelle McAfee and David Jacobs-Strain, Friday, September 28th, at 7:30 p.m.
