Song writing class coming to Creede

CREEDE—Kathy Hussey, a Song Writer’s Hall of Fame award winner from Nashville, will conduct a song writer seminar in association with the Headwaters Music Festival taking place the following weekend in Creede.

The classes will be held in the historic Elks Lodge on Main Street downtown Creede. The cost is $50 per person and the class is open to everyone. Limited seats are available so sign up early. No songwriting, music-reading or instrument-playing experience is necessary.

On Day 1: Thursday, Aug. 24 (2-4 p.m.) Participants will bring a song that they love to learn about song structure and all the basics of what makes songs so appealing to us. No matter what the genre of music, there are common threads in how songs affect us. There will be a discussion of the “mechanics”: song form and structure, rhyme and meter, imagery, themes and universal ideas.

On Day 2: Friday, Aug. 25 (10 a.m.-12 p.m.) The Creative Process - Those with songs in progress can bring their instruments or just lyrics, and will receive input on what’s working, and possibly ways to adjust to have maximum impact. This group discussion is invaluable for getting real reactions that will help put that shine on your creations. Those that don’t have works-in-progress will get just as much out of these discussions as those that do.
