Society Hall presents award-winning solo plays

ALAMOSA — Society Hall, the performance space, concert hall and community gathering place at 400 Ross Ave. in Alamosa, is thrilled to present their inaugural live theater evening, featuring Vivian Nesbitt and Lisanne Cole in “The Long and the Short of It,” each presenting a one-woman play on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and are available at the Green Spot in Alamosa or online at www.societyhall.org.

Vivian Nesbitt will be performing her play “The Bark and the Tree.” Vivian’s theater credits include LORT, summer Shakespeare and United Solo Festival, Theatre Row, NYC where The Bark & The Tree was awarded Best Documentary Play and Best Lighting Design. A study in passion and perseverance, The Bark & The Tree is the story of Vivian’s search for her great great grandmother’s legacy of creative expression in the face of adversity. Known as Eva of the Nation for her poetry inspiring The Young Irelanders movement and Irish freedom fighters during the Great Hunger, Vivian’s ancestor made a deep impression, leading her to life changing experiences told through seven characters.

Vivian has been seen on The Night Shift, Breaking Bad, Manhattan, Law & Order: SVU, The Messengers, Longmire, and In Plain Sight. Her short screenplay Leverage was an official selection of Taos Shortz and NMWIF Film Fiesta garnering her the award for Best Performance. She holds an MFA in acting and has studied with Anna Deavere Smith, Alan Arkin, Anthony Meindl, Seth Barrish & Lee Brock. The Bark & The Tree was an official selection of the Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival 2016, themed Telling Our Truths. She continues this mission in the joyous community found at her studio, Sol Acting Academy in Albuquerque, where she mentors actors of all ages. Vivian is co-producer (with her husband John), of Art of the Song, heard on public radio nationwide.

Lisanne Cole will be performing her play “Walking Upright,” which is a humorous journey filled with characters along the way that showed Lisanne the many colors of life’s canvas — from being christened on a royal naval destroyer, to a rigid boarding school, through learning how to be a good housewife, with instructions of how to cook and sew (which turned out not to be enough of an adventure), to the glitter of a disco ball and a life filled with rhythms of different cultures, exploration of spiritual pastures, opening up a whole new world - “Wow”, she cried,  “There’s more than tea and crumpets!”

Lisanne has appeared in independent movies, and in a feature film starring Colin Firth filmed in Argentina, called “Apartment Zero.” She has done voice-over work, audio books, commercials, written her own songs and co-produced three CD’s of her own music. She has written and performed two solo shows, and has performed in England, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and around Colorado. She is currently performing at Santa Fe’s Meow Wolf with her improv group.

The board of Society Hall, a 501c-3 non profit organization, invites lovers of live theater to join them this Wednesday for an evening of two solo plays. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. As always, wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks will be available. Society Hall – where community celebrates!
