Ski Hi cleared for use

MONTE VISTA — The Ski Hi Multi-Purpose Building will be available for Stampede and the SLV Fair this year.

There had been some question as to whether or not the facility would be open, but this was answered recently by an engineering report received by the City of Monte Vista.

The Multi-Purpose Building had been closed for the past few months as the city sought to deal with some alleged engineering issues.

“We are quite relieved with the results of the latest engineering report on the multi-purpose building,” said City Manager Forrest Neuerburg.  “Basically the report indicates with ongoing maintenance and regular assessments the building shall continue to serve the community well.”

The temporary closure of the building raised concerns about how Stampede, the San Luis Valley Fair and other events would carry forward in the community. However, those concerns can now be set-aside for the time being.

“Of course, the facility does need more TLC then it has had and we are going to get some more information on how to continue to maintain the building while we also look at the next generation of the facility,” Neuerburg added.  “In the meantime we’re happy to know that we have a continued home for Stampede, Fair, Crane Fest and the Ag Conference and all of the other great community events at Ski Hi.”

The multi-purpose building will remain closed until Stampede this year as the city continues to assess some improvements but should return to regular service following Stampede and Fair.
