Shirley Ann Washington, 82

Shirley Ann Washington, 82, passed away on the morning of March 3, 2018 after a 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Shirley was born May 4, 1935 in Fairplay, CO to Casper and Mary Whaley.  She grew up in Cannon City.  She met James Washington in her teen years and later got married, they moved to Ft. Garland where they raised their son, Scott.  They enjoyed living in the mountains, going up to Lake Como on Mt. Blanca often and Shirley ran their restaurant and bar, The Mt. Blanca Inn for 20+ years.  In 1998 she decided to enjoy her retirement in warmer weather and moved to AZ.  She returned to Colorado when she was admitted into the Alzheimer’s facility.

Shirley was a people person, loved taking to everyone, could always tell you a good joke, nothing made her smile more than pranking others, if you beat her at a game of gin rummy you would consider yourself very lucky, she was the biggest Broncos fan, her heart was happy when her grandkids were with her, Lake Como was her happy place and she always believed ending her day with a scotch and water on the rocks.

She leaves behind her ex-husband James Washington, son Scott Washington and wife Kandi, their kids Tyler and Ali, Grand-daughter Taija Oakes and great grand daughter Emerie Sierra, Sister Linda Siedel, Sister-in-law Joyce Flemming.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings and other cherished family members.

There will be no services held.  A gathering of friends and family will spread her ashes at Lake Como on Mt. Blanca this summer per her request.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated.
