Sara Veronica Gallegos Felix

CENTER, COLO. — Sara Veronica Gallegos Felix took our Lord’s hand on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo., with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 19, 1950 in Del Norte, Colo., to Ben Gallegos and Helen Serna Gallegos. She was the sixth child in a family of eight children.

Sara was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Before she lost her sight, she loved to play Bingo, go to basketball games, do word search puzzles and yard sales. She enjoyed listening to New Mexico music, Oldies, watching Days of Our Lives and cruising. She was a great cook, making tortillas up until she definitely couldn’t anymore. She was very happy when surrounded by her family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jeanette Martinez of Lakewood, Colo., and Cheryl (Alfredo) Pacheco of Boulder, Colo.; he partner Robert Valdez of the family home; her brothers Henry (Margaret) Gallegos of Broomfield, N.M., and archie Gallegos of Center, Colo.; her sisters, Ida Gallegos and Dora Trujillo, both of Center, Colo.; sister-in-law, Lucy Madrid of Colorado Springs, Colo., and brother-in-law Lawrence Gallegos of Center, Colo. She is also survived by her grandchildren Vannesa (Julio) Cardenas, Lili Ana (Ashton), both of Aurora, Colo., Jesse and Butch (Veronica) of New Mexico, and three great-grandchildren, Elias Cardenas, Maribel and Angel Fierro, along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen Gallegos, daughter, Lisa Chavez, brother Bobby Gallegos, sisters Frances Quintana and Rose Gallegos, one niece (Brenda Maul), and three nephews (Adam Gallegos, Gary Gallegos and Fabian Trujillo).

The family chose cremation. A Vigil Service and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Center, Colo.. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in La Garita, Colo., at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the La Garita Cemetery.
