S. Conejos BOE seats open

ANTONITO — Three seats will be open on the South Conejos Board of Education (BOE) and a call for nominations has gone out.

The regular biennial election will be Tuesday, Nov. 7 and involves a two-year term in District B, as well as two four-year terms in Districts A and C.

Rod Ruybalid replaced Melton Ruybal in a recall bid for District A and Eufemia “Femy” Martinez-Duran replaced Phillip Trujillo in District C. The seat in District B was thrown open by the resignation of Victoria Riis, who was elected in 2015 and left in 2016. She was replaced by Robert Duran, whom she defeated in the 2015 election.

To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and a resident of the district to be represented.

A person who desires to be a candidate for school board member must file a written notice of intention to run and a nomination petition signed by at least 25 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election.

Nomination petitions may be obtained at South Conejos School District. Office hours are from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday – Thursday.

Completed petitions must be submitted to South Conejos School District Office at no later than 4 p.m. Sept. 1.
