Ronald “Ron” Mizokami

Alamosa resident Ronald “Ron” Mizokami, 69, died November 16, 2021 at his home. Ron was born in Alamosa on June 28, 1952 to Sam and Agnes Hayashida Mizokami. He grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Sierra Grande High School in 1970. He attended Adams State College before being drafted into the Army. While in the service, Ron married the love of his life, Maria “Cindy” Medina on October 3, 1973 in Boulder, Colorado. Ron worked for many years at Aspen Produce before owning and operating Apex Produce until 2012.

Ron was known for being a quiet, thoughtful, and kind man who valued his family above all else. He truly embodied being the “rock” of the family. While he was not especially affectionate, his feelings towards those he cared about were clear as his actions always spoke louder than his words - sneaking a full gas tank in his kids’ cars, a text message with a loving song, or an especially mushy birthday card. He was fiercely protective of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter and wouldn’t tolerate any negative words spoken about them.

Together, Ron and Cindy built a legacy of a loving and welcoming home for anyone who needed them. They took great pride in always helping those in need. Ron was extremely generous and would have offered the shirt off his back to anyone who asked him. Throughout their lives, Ron and Cindy cared for multiple members of their extended family and welcomed them into their home with loving arms. He could see the good in anyone and refused to give up on anyone he cared about.

Ron enjoyed watching sports and the weekends were spent watching the Nuggets, Rockies, or Broncos on television. He loved watching his son Jason and grandson Jayden play baseball at Alamosa High School and his granddaughter Mia play softball, volleyball, and basketball. He was an avid firearms collector and shared the hobby with his brother, sons, and grandsons. He loved going to the casino with his family and could often be seen winning jackpots on the “Blazing 7’s” slots.

Ron is survived by his wife Cindy Mizokami of Alamosa, CO; his children Eric Mizokami of Colorado Springs, CO, Jason (Karen) Mizokami of Alamosa, CO, Kara (Adam) Mizokami-Stout of Howell, MI, and Isaiah (Mavi) Valenzuela of Monte Vista, CO; his grandchildren: Natasha, Jonathan, Jayden, Mia, Landon, Andrew, Maverick, and Zander; his great-granddaughter Aubrey; his brother Duane (Rita) Mizokami of Alamosa, CO; his nephew Brandon (Tammy) Mizokami of Alamosa, CO; and his niece Krista (Donnie) Garcia of Arvada, CO.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Agnes; his parents-in-law Stanley and Dora Medina; his sisters Jeanne (Greg) White and Marlene (Don) Arellano; his infant brother Gary Mizokami; and his nephew Darren (Kimberly) Mizokami.
