LA JARA —Roger “Clarence” Sidney Garcia, 80, passed away July 6, 2019 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs with his loving family by his side. Clarence was born on Sept. 10, 1938 in Ortiz, the son of Gaspar Garcia and Adela Sanchez Garcia. He was united in marriage to Olivia Benavides on Nov. 21, 1958 in Conejos.

Clarence was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed going fishing, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Olivia Garcia of La Jara; eldest grandson Darrick (Amber) Garcia of Antonito; daughters Noel (James) Lewis-Kerr of Kenosha, Wisc.; Sherrie (George) Elgin of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; sons Wayne Garcia of Antonito; Bryan Garcia of Southern California, 13 grandchildren Nicholas (Michelle) Garcia, Cory (Dawn) Garcia, Cody Garcia, Jason (Melody) Lewis, Eric Lewis, Kristin Lewis, Olivia Garcia, Margaret Garcia, Kendra Garcia, Sean Elgin, Jerod Elgin, nine great-grandchildren, sisters Liliosa Romero of Conejos; Vandeen Garcia of Alamosa. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Gaspar and Adela Garcia, grandson Craig DeHerrera, sister Wilma Romero and one brother Gaspar Garcia.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow, and internment will be held at a later date.
