ANTONITO — On Sunday, August, 2nd, 2020, Robert Gusman Gallegos, loving husband and father, went home to be with His Lord and Savior at the age of 80.  After a year-long battle with lung cancer, he died peacefully at his home in Menifee, California, with his beloved family by his side.

Robert was born on June 18, 1940, in Ortiz, Colorado to Otoniel and Elvira Gallegos. Graduated from Antonito High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Adams State College and went on to obtain two master’s degrees from the University of Colorado.   He taught for 26 years in secondary and elementary education in Colorado, New Mexico, and California.  On June 30, 1971, he married Brenda Faye Barnes.  They raised a daughter, LaNae, and son, Joshua, until Brenda went home to be with the  Lord  August 3,  1996.    On  May  22,  2006,  he married  Michelle  Myrle  Larsen in  Rancho Cucamonga.

Growing up in Colorado, Robert was a skilled horseman who worked hard and grew-up with the duties of ranching life.    He served as mayor of Antonito, Colorado, from 1971-1974.   He enjoyed math, which led to the pursuit of his teaching career. During his years of teaching, he served as Co-Chair of the Math Department and Head of ESL for the Moreno Valley Unified School District.   In his later years, Robert enjoyed serving on mission trips to Mexico with his church, Revival Christian Fellowship and supporting the spread of the Gospel across all nations through A Message to the Conscience Ministries.

His greatest passion was his deep, unwavering love for Jesus Christ, his Savior and Redeemer.

Robert had the strength of a gentle soul. He proved over and over again that a calm mind had more power than size or muscle.   His quiet demeanor made him an unassuming giant amongst those who knew him best.   He had a strong mind, divine patience, and strength of character which could not be challenged.   He was a rare man that will never be forgotten by those who were blessed by his humility and grace. Robert was an excellent man who led an exemplary life. He will live in our hearts forever.
