Robbery suspect apprehended

ALAMOSA — On Jan. 3 at approximately 11:48 p.m. Alamosa County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to Discount Liquor at 151 Broadway Avenue in East Alamosa on the report of an armed robbery in progress. The unharmed clerk was held at gunpoint and forced to open the register in which the suspect stole approximately $400.

The suspect was described as a tall white male wearing a black hood, black hat, baggy black pants, and green jacket and carrying a tan AR15 rifle. The suspect fled the scene and was believed to be westbound toward Alamosa.

Alamosa County deputies and Alamosa Police Department officers canvased the area around Discount Liquor and East Alamosa but were unable to locate the suspect. At 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 4 the suspect was identified as homeless Alamosa resident Jeffery Russell, 30, and at approximately 11:15 a.m. Russell was located and arrested on the 600 block of State Street. The weapon used in the commission of the crime was later recovered and placed into evidence.

Russell is being held on charges of aggravated robbery with a weapon, felony menacing and theft.
