Rio Grande Rattlers High School Mountain Bike Team

EAGLE , Colo. — The San Luis Valley Rattlers High School Mountain Bike Team traveled to Eagle, Colorado on October 6th for their final regular season race, the South Conference Championships.

The junior varsity boys started racing in the cool, damp morning on a perfectly packed trail. Cameron Roberts fought hard for a 16th place finish and Devin Arellano finished strong in 69th place out of 154 racers.  Kristin David sprinted to a 20th place finish in the JV Girls race and sophomore Marian Kidd rode tough but had to drop out after 6 miles due to illness.  Landon Tolsma finished his sophomore race in 120th place.  Freshman Sebastian Steffens wound up finishing in 83rd place in a competitive field.

Five Rattlers qualified for the State Championship race coming up on Saturday October 20th and Sunday October 21st  in Durango, Colorado:  Devin Arellano and Cameron Roberts and Kristin David will compete at the JV level.  Sophomore Marian Kidd and Freshman Sebastian Steffens will round out the competition.

The Rattlers cooked bacon and served pickles and manned a marshal station for the 12 Hours of Penitence Mountain Bike Race on Saturday October 13th.  Proceeds from this event support Youth on Bikes including the Rattlers Team.
