RGSO offers concealed weapons course this weekend in Del Norte

DEL NORTE — A concealed weapons firearms training course will be offered by the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office on December 15 and 16. This will be an eight-hour course and will satisfy requirements for concealed firearm carry upon successful completion.

There is no charge for the course. A range fee, if not a member of the Rio Grande Sportsman Club, may apply.

The course will begin at 5 p.m. on December 15 and run until 9 p.m. This session will be classroom study. Bring firearm for inspection. No ammunition please. There will be four hours of training in the use and proficiency of a firearm. Saturday, December 16, the class will meet at the Rio Grande Sportsman Club at 10 a.m. for live fire proficiency.

On Friday the class will meet at the Rio Grande Sheriff’s Office, 640 Cherry Street, Del Norte. Saturday will be held at the Rio Grande Sportsman Club located between Monte Vista and Del Norte on Highway 160 and Rifle Range Road.

A modern center fire or rim fire handgun will be acceptable upon completion of a safety and function check by on-site armors. A suitable hip holster will be required for training. No cross draw or shoulder holsters. Bring 15 rounds of factory practice ammunition. Hearing protection and eye protection will be required. A ball cap for sun protection and proper clothing is recommended.

Classroom size is limited to 25; please register early. Standby registrations will be accepted in case of cancellations.
