Rev. JK Melton to preach on Dec. 23

ALAMOSA –The Rev. JK Melton of Farmington, N.M., will conduct the Christmas Eucharist for St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at The Bridge, 3407 Carroll St., Alamosa.

The regular 9 a.m. Sunday Morning Prayer service will not be held that day at St. Thomas.

St. Thomas started a few years ago conducting Christmas and Easter services at The Bridge rather than at the Fourth Street church because a number of its congregants, who are served by a Lay Eucharistic minister in a Lay Eucharistic minister’s communion service at 11 a.m. Sundays at the assisted living center, can’t get to church.

Melton, who has started to serve Episcopal churches in the San Luis Valley, is a graduate of the General Theological Seminary in 2013 and a 2002 graduate of University of Colorado-Boulder. He is a doctoral candidate at Fordham University, writing his dissertation on Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury.

Melton said he will preach on “what it might mean for us to embrace the Angel’s announcement, ‘Do not be afraid; Jesus has been born to us, and continues to be born for us today.’”

All are welcome at the service, which will be held in the second floor dining room at The Bridge.
