Repairs starting on Trujillo Meadows Reservoirs dam

MONTE VISTA – Trujillo Meadows Reservoir was recently drained to accommodate repairs that need to be made to the dam. That construction work will start this month and no fishing is available at the site this summer.

The reservoir is located in southwest Conejos County just off of Colorado State Highway 17.

Anglers can hike a short ways above the reservoir and fish Rio de Los Pinos. Fishing there is by flies and lures only; any cutthroats caught must be returned to the water immediately.  Anglers can also travel down the road and fish the Conejos River; or travel up the road along the Conejos to Platoro Reservoir.

Repairs to the dam are scheduled to be completed late this year. The reservoir could be refilled next spring and stocked with fish again by next summer.

The campground near Trujillo Meadows Reservoir is open. Also, in the general area, there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the Rio Grande National Forest.

All anglers 16 years and older must have a Colorado fishing license. Please, check the Colorado fishing brochure for any special regulations for the water you’re going to fish.
