Red Cross: Sound the alarm

VALLEY — The American Red Cross asks everyone to help Sound the Alarm in their communities and be part of the nationwide Red Cross effort to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires.

The Red Cross of Colorado & Wyoming is holding several Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events during the weeks of April 28 – May 13. Red Cross volunteers and local partners will be canvassing neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms and helping families create escape plans.

“In just the last three months, the Red Cross here in Colorado & Wyoming has helped nearly 500 people who had experienced a home fire. Home fires are the biggest disaster threat our community faces, killing seven people in this country every day,” said Gino Greco, American Red Cross Regional CEO. “Help us Sound the Alarm by volunteering to install smoke alarms in your community, making a financial contribution, or taking steps to protect your own family from home fires.”

As of March 2018, in the Colorado & Wyoming Region, Red Cross has made 7,790 homes safer and installed 15,813 free smoke alarms to date since the program began in 2014. Visit www.soundthealarm.org
