Saguache resident Rafaelita Maez, 91, passed away July 1, 2018 at the Parkmoore Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Rafaelita was born on July 22, 1926 in Saguache, Colorado, the daughter of Jose Martinez and Shona Mascarenas Martinez. Rafaelita devoted her life to taking care of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Of all the roles she had in her life, she truly excelled at being a wife and mother.

Survivors include her daughter Kathy (Jesse) Maez of Cody, WY; sons Cy (Theresa) Maez, Chris (Roberta) Maez, Ralph Maez all of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Cynthia Valdez of Colorado Springs, CO;  Patrick Maez of Lusk, WY; Melissa Maez and Makyla Maez both of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren Sean Valdez, Enrique Maez, brothers Dave Martinez of Saguache, CO; Tasho Martinez of Denver, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rafaelita was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Shona Martinez, husband Cy Maez Sr., and two sons Tim Maez and Rick Maez.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 9:30 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Saguache. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Saguache. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
