Race and festival planned along the Rio Grande

CREEDE – The Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project (RGHRP) and the Willow Creek Reclamation Committee (WCRC), a project of the Headwaters Alliance, are partnering to host their annual fundraiser, the Runoff Runoff, on June 17.

The Runoff Runoff event will take place in Creede and will include a marathon, half-marathon and 6K fun run, all following the scenic headwaters of the Rio Grande. This year, the Runoff Runoff will also partner with the Rocky Mountain Flyathlon, taking place on Miners Creek. After the races, participants and community members are welcome to an afternoon music festival in the Creede Ballpark. The party will take place from 1-5 p.m., and will boast tasty barbecue and local beer from Three Barrel Brewing Company. Colorado based bluegrass bands, including Moors and McCumber and Bruce Hayes, will play live music throughout the afternoon.

The purpose of the Runoff Runoff is to raise awareness about local water issues and to fundraise for the RGHRP and the WCRC so that they are able to continue to implement projects that improve water quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and the overall condition of the Rio Grande headwaters.

This event is made possible by sponsorships from Stones Farm Supply, Kip’s Grill, Robins Construction, the San Luis Valley Water Conservancy District, and other local businesses and organizations.
