Pirate's chest to reveal icy treasures

...

Master craftsmen were already at work on the ice sculptures along Alamosa’s Main Street on Friday for the 10th Annual Rio Frio Ice Fest. The theme this year is “The Pirate Life,” and one can envision the creative ways that theme will take shape today. Come down to Alamosa’s Main Street at 12 p.m. noon today (Saturday, Jan. 26) to watch the ice carving and faux snowman building and stay downtown for the Kiwanis Costume Contest and Character Meet and Greet on San Juan Avenue from 2-3 p.m., the Grub & Pub from 3-7 p.m. and the popular bonfire “fire and ice” at 7 p.m. on San Juan Avenue. At 10 a.m. today will be the Rio Frio 5 K, beginning at Cole Park, and Sunday’s events will continue with the new event, Fat Bike Races at 10 a.m. at Blanca Vista Park. The festival will conclude at 11 a.m. on Sunday with the polar plunge and ice carousel, also at Blanca Vista Park. See www.riofrioice.com or www.alamosarec.org
