Pete (Pedro) Antonio Vigil

CAPULIN — Heaven welcomed a loving soul Pete Antonio Vigil, 76, who was called home on April 29, 2023.

Pete joined our heavenly father surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

He was welcomed into the world on Dec. 31, 1946, at Hot Creek, West of Capulin, Colo. He was born to Pete and Maria Vigil. He was the eldest of four children who were raised on the Farm. Pete was well known in his community for helping and giving to others.

He loved spending time with his family, gambling, watching the news and westerns, eating out at restaurants especially Red Lobster, having his favorite Margaritas, anything sweet, Elvis and classic vehicles. He enjoyed spending time in his tractors working on his farm as he loved watching his crops flourish. He always found time to rest even if it was just a little. He also enjoyed relaxing weekend getaways when he could after a hard week’s work and harvest, along with traveling and vacations to tropical islands.

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons such as living life to the fullest and overcoming hardships, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren such as the ethic of hard work. He also taught us to always stay humble and never forget where we came from.

Pete was the owner and operator of “Vigil Farms” and a hay hauler for over 50 years. He was a fourth-generation farmer who was also recognized in the community with a “Conservationist of the Year Award” in 2012. He received many awards throughout his lifetime including a “Centennial Farm Award” in 2018 which he received from the State of Colorado and an appreciation award from the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Region.

Survivors include his siblings, Helen, Gilbert and Veronica, his daughters; Melanie Vigil-Garcia (Gerald) of Alamosa, Colo.; Amanda Vigil of Capulin, Colo., grandchildren Mariah Vigil, Michael Martinez (Randie), Monique Salazar (Hubert), Joshua Sisneros (Margarita), Gabriel and Kaitlyn Garcia and Elisandro Trujillo, great-grandchildren; Xayden and Ivory Sisneros, Mateo Martinez and Briah Atkins.
