Officers placed on leave after fatal shooting

ALAMOSA — On February 28, 2018 at approximately 9:47 p.m. officers of the Alamosa Police Department were dispatched to the 1400 block of W. 11th St. in reference to a threat call.

As officers made contact with a female inside the residence, a 47-year-old Alamosa man armed with multiple deadly weapons threatened the responding officers. After several attempts to disarm the man using less lethal force, it is believed that the armed suspect charged the officers, resulting in shots being fired by officers.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after receiving lifesaving efforts by emergency personnel. No Alamosa Police officers were injured in the incident.

Per Alamosa Police Department Policy, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was requested to investigate the incident. Two of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as a result of standard operating procedure. The names of the suspect and officers are not being released at this time until family notifications can be made, and the CBI investigation completed.
