Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program deadline shared

VALLEY — The Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) provides financial assistance to producers of noninsurable crops when low yields, loss of inventory or prevented planting occur due to natural disasters. An eligible producer is any landowner, tenant or sharecropper who shares in the risk of producing an eligible crop.

All producers are reminded that Monday, December 3, is the deadline to obtain crop year 2019 NAP coverage for perennial crops intended for forage and grazing. These crops include established alfalfa, native & improved grass, mixed forages, clover and honey. Basic coverage with a coverage level of 50 percent crop loss at 55 percent of the established price may be obtained by paying a service fee of $250 per crop not to exceed $750 per producer per administrative county.

Qualified limited resource farmers, beginning farmers, and traditionally underserved farmers may request a waiver of the service fee by filing Form CCC-860, “Socially Disadvantaged, Limited Resource and Beginning Farmer or Rancher Certification.” The request for waiver must be filed on or before the date of filing the application for coverage. With regard to buy-up coverage, those filing a Form CCC-860 certifying to being a beginning, limited resource and socially disadvantaged farmers are also eligible for a 50 percent reduction of their calculated premium.
