No on SR

Dear Editor,

Last week there was a letter encouraging readers to contact our two Senators and encourage them to pass (SR1) the voting rights act.  I too encourage readers to contact our Senators.  But in my view we need to encourage them to vote against this unconstitutional legislation and save the court battle.  States are directed by the constitution to set the parameters of the elections.  Also why should I, as a lifelong taxpayer, allow my tax money to fund the elections of candidates I do not support!  If elections cost too much for the average citizen candidate to pay (and I agree they do), then let’s put a limit on the amount they can spend.  It absolutely makes no sense for the government to supplement the money the candidate raises by six fold with taxpayer funds.

Also, while you are contacting our Senators remind them to keep the federal straws out of Colorado water.  We do not want to sell off our historical water rights for the mere pittance that might come our way by including our water in an infrastructure bill!

In closing I encourage everyone to stay on top of what is going on in government today.  If allowed to continue down the road we’re on we may soon be in a hole we can’t dig out of!  The last President’s tweets may have been embarrassing but the actions of the current administration are causing real damage!
