No-cost food safety classes offered in May

VALLEY — Each year, SLV Environmental Health offers Food Safety classes at various locations around the San Luis Valley for food service managers and employees. This year’s classes will take place at locations around the Valley during the fourth week in May. There is no cost for the two-hour class.

“We are offering these classes for free, which will save each participant from having to pay the normal fee to take the class,” said SLV Environmental Health Program Manager Lynnea Rappold. “We offer the classes this time of year to help food service managers and employees understand food safety and the science behind it. It’s a great way to train new seasonal staff, ask questions, and get answers from the source. It also gives them a chance to get to know their inspector and to learn what they need to know to get through an inspection.”

There will be a morning and an afternoon option at most of the locations, which include South Fork, Del Norte, Monte Vista, Alamosa, Crestone, Center, Creede, Fort Garland, Antonito, and La Jara. Call 719-587-5176 or email [email protected] for more details and to register. The registration deadline is May 19.

Unless noted, there will be two sessions at each location: 8:30-10:30 a.m. or 1:30-3:30 p.m.
