Nelson “Red” Wayne Mickelsen

Nelson Wayne Mickelsen entered this earthly life on 10 October 1938 in Alamosa, Colorado. He was the first born of Nelson Cornum Mickelsen and Thelma (Jepperson) Mickelsen. After a life full of adventure and hard work, he passed away on 21 July 2021.

He grew up in Sanford, Colorado and graduated from Sanford High School. After graduation, he worked in Houser’s Filling Station in Alamosa. His life-long career started with a construction crew that was working for the telephone company in Colorado Springs. Red soon applied for a job with the telephone company, was hired, and spent many decades working with all manner of telephone equipment. The telephone company changed names and corporations several times, but the job stayed the same. Red retired three times, the company always called him back to work to train other employees.

Red lived in many areas of Colorado, moving to where he was needed by the telephone company and attended training sessions all over the nation.  After a few years, he received a permanent position in Monte Vista, Colorado and raised his family there. He enjoyed hunting with his dad, his friends and his brother, family camping and fishing trips and the occasional trips to the casino.

Red was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Thelma, and his daughter, Peggy Sue (Charlie) Braun. He is survived by his son Ron and wife, Mary Ann, and her children: Lorie, Frank and Ellie. His siblings, Warren (Diane) Mickelsen and Glenna (Myron) Price. As well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
