National Health Center Week proclaimed

Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman, center, presents the proclamation for August 12-18 as National Health Center Week to Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc. Director of Dental Operations Karen Mizokami and Valley-Wide Decision Support Analyst Suzanne DeVore during a recent city council meeting. Supporting them from left are Councilors Charles Griego, David Broyles, Liz Hensley, Kristina Daniel, Michael Carson and Jan Vigil. The proclamation recognized that for more than 50 years community health centers have provided high-quality, affordable, comprehensive primary and preventive health care in underserved communities. Health centers integrate a wide range of services beyond primary care, including oral health, behavioral health, and pharmacy services. One in every 12 people in the United States gets their care in a community health center. Generating $45.6 billion in economic impact in some of the country’s most economically deprived communities, health centers nationally employ more than 200,000 people, including physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. National Health Center Week is the opportunity to recognize America’s nearly 1,400 health center organizations and their dedicated staff.
