Monte Vista, Del Norte place in Top 5 at Fowler Tourney

ALAMOSA – The Monte Vista High School boys golf team placed third and Del Norte opened its season with a fifth-place finish at the Fowler Invitational Thursday at the Cottonwood Links.

The Pirates had a team score of 268, placing behind Pueblo West with 238 and Fowler with 262. Swink was fourth with 270, followed by Del Norte with 272.

Leading the Pirates was Liam Ellithorpe who placed eighth with an 86. Kaden Mellott tied for ninth with an 87, and Riley Bounds was 20th with an 85.

Also golfing for Monte Vista were Seth Waggoner who was 37th with a 111, Corbin Castillo who tied for 38th with a 112, Todd Adams who tied for 57th with a 124, Kaedyn Serak who was 68th with a 134, and Ian Quintana who was 71st with a 137.

Ben Parra led the Tigers as he tied for fourth with an 82. Tyler Gallegos tied for ninth with an 87, and T.J. Sanchez was 28th with a 103.

Other Del Norte golfers were Reece Velasquez who was 36th with a 110, Landan Velasquez who tied for 45th with a 116, and Aidan Medina who tied for 54th with a 122.

Pueblo West’s Jacob Valdez was the individual medalist with a 77.

The next scheduled competition is the Canon City Invitational on Aug. 18.
