Meliton “Mel” Archuleta, 71

Pueblo former Alamosa resident Meliton “Mel” Archuleta, 71, went to his eternal rest on February 27, 2019. Mel was welcomed into the world on May 3, 1947 in Alamosa, Colorado the son of Meliton Eugene Archuleta Sr. and Mary Lewis Archuleta. Mel was a veteran of the United States Army and served during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Salazar on October 13, 1964 and the two shared a long and happy union until his passing. Mel was a member of the Colorado Jcees, D.A.V. Dickey Springer Post #113 where he was commander for 8 years and the G.I. Forum. Mel was a friend to all and was known for his sense of humor and his kind heart. Mel would help anyone in need. He was an exceptional and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Genevieve Archuleta of Pueblo, CO; daughter Renee (Brian) Kahler of Pueblo, CO; son Steve (Brenis) Archuleta of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Zantia (Felix) Abeyta, Jeremiah Archuleta, Jacob Archuleta (Sheree Salazar), Jason (Paloma) Mestas, Brian  (Sierra) Kahler, Jeremy Kahler, Isaac Tolbert, Damiana Gutierrez, great-grandchildren Dylan, Tillman and Charlotte Abeyta, Liam Archuleta, Benjamin Archuleta, Ember Archuleta, Jackson Kahler, Lalia Suarez, Cruz Mestas, Rohni Mestas, Damian Salazar, Elena Espinoza, sisters Louise Archuleta of Pueblo, CO; Patricia Herrera of Alamosa, CO; Geraldine Vargas of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Joe (Genevieve) Garcia of Alamosa, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents Meliton and Mary Archuleta, daughter Debra Marie Archuleta, sister Adeline Garcia Peck, brothers Fred Garcia, Poncho Garcia, Albert Archuleta and Roy Clarence Archuleta.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa.
