McVey appeared in court Tuesday

Shawdon McVey had his first appearance in the 12th District Court. McVey’s Attorney, Chip Cutler conveyed to Judge Michael Gonzales that he has been in negotiations with District Attorney, Crista Newmyer-Olsen and a request was made for a dispositional hearing. This option was found to be agreeable to both parties and Judge Gonzales granted the request. The dispositional hearing is set for next month.  At that time, there will be either an entry plea or the case will proceed to full trial.

McVey, 25, is facing multiples charges in the Aug. 9, 2018 murder of Mathias Fritz of Alamosa. On that night, four men: Robert Martinez, 29; Shem Brown, 26; Philip Medina, 36; and McVey were in an apartment in East Alamosa with Fritz and his girlfriend, Alma Salazar. According to authorities, Fritz and Salazar were put in separate bathrooms in the apartment where Fritz was beaten, then shot. Salazar also was shot.

Neighbors reported the shooting after finding the female victim wandering around with gunshot wounds. Authorities found Fritz deceased at the scene.

McVey remains in Alamosa County Jail and will appear in court May 7 at at 1:45 p.m.
