Maxine Irene Martinez, 71

Born in Monte Vista, Colorado on September 16, 1945, longtime Alamosa resident Maxine Irene Martinez passed away on April 29, 2017 while residing in Lubbock, TX.

A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Maxine loved to travel for visits with her children, grandchildren and many family members and friends.  She enjoyed watching her children’s and grandchildren’s many sporting events and activities.  An active member of the church, Maxine was always willing to help others.  She also watched and listened to many Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies games, as well as played the occasional bingo game and working on puzzles.  Maxine loved to cook meals, big and small, for her family and friends.  She enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and was well respected by many during her work in daycare, at Alamosa State Bank, SLV Federal Bank, JC Penny, Valley Wide Health Services and retiring from BOCES.  Maxine was always loved by everyone she met.

She is survived by her children Alysia I. Martinez, Loretta L. (Brian) Garcia , Mariquita E. (Allen, Sr.) Romero, Juan Jose M. (Wenda) and grandchildren Mark Martinez, Allen Romero, Jr., Robyn Romero, Max Garcia, Zachary Garcia and grandpets; brothers and sisters Betty (Robert) Sandoval, Connie Samora, Gilbert (Sally) Ortiz, Helen Ortiz, Richard (Harriet) Ortiz, Robert (Kathy) Ortiz and Virginia Perea and Aunt Stella Torrey and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2017 and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 5, 2017at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa, with a private inurnment with her children and their families to be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Maxine’s name.  The care of arrangements has been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
