La Jara resident Matthias P. Hernandez, 17, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2022. Born on July 1, 2004 in Alamosa, Colorado, the beloved son of Stephanie Lynn Hernandez and Patrick Daniel Hernandez. Matthias will forever be remembered for his contagious laugh, smile and outgoing personality. He was an outdoorsman, he loved going hunting, fishing and camping. He was a good student and excelled in his studies. On his free time he enjoyed dancing, listening to country music and spending time his family and friends. He was taken far too soon but will always be remembered and forever missed. He was a miracle baby.

He will live on through his parents Patrick and Stephanie Hernandez of La Jara, CO; maternal grandmother Jeanie Lopez of Capulin, CO;  paternal grandmother Margie Hernandez of San Luis, CO; sister Hannah Hernandez of La Jara, CO. one brother Xander Lopez of La Jara, CO. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matthias was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Humberto Hernandez, maternal grandfather David Espinoza, great-grandfather Walter Martinez, uncles David and Jeremy Lopez, great-uncle Tommy Floyd Martinez, aunt Elizabeth Georgia Martinez, two cousins Alize Hidalgo and Neomi Martinez.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 2-4 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Centauri Middle School Gymnasium in La Jara. Interment will follow at the Gomez Cemetery.
