Marvin Lee Kennedy

Marvin Lee Kennedy was born in Matador, Texas on Sept. 30, 1931, and passed away on September 9, 2017. He lived on a farm until moving to the copper mining town of Miami, Arizona in 1939. He attended grammar school there, before moving with his family to Southern California where he attended, and graduated from Gardena High School. During high school, he played football, while working for a retail grocery chain. Upon graduation from High School in 1950, he joined the Navy, and served until June, 1954. Upon his honorable discharge, he went back to work for the retail grocery co. and continued working in retail until 1961, when he became employed with Sears, Roebuck & Co. as an auto mechanic. His skill was auto air conditioning. He retired from Sears in 1986.

He and his wife, Marlene, raised their 3 children while living in Lawndale, Ca. He enjoyed doing renovations on his home.

During his years as a dedicated father and provider, he was affiliated with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and held a term as treasurer.

He also served his community as a Parks & Recreation Commissioner, then was elected as a City Council Member, and served a term as Mayor.

He was also a Sheriff Reserve deputy, for many years, serving in Los Angeles, Co., Ca., and Conejos Co., Co

He loved his family and enjoyed taking them on vacations and camping trips.

He enjoyed water sports of waterskiing, scuba diving, and boating.

He also enjoyed horses.

After his retirement, he traveled some, even building and operating his own restaurant and dinner theatre, until re-locating to the San Luis Valley, and lived in Mogote, from 1993 until his passing on Sept. 9, 2017. During that time, he opened his own auto repair business at the Texaco Station in Antonito, and was a loyal servant to his customers and friends.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Antonito, and humbly served his church with awe inspiring dedication.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He greeted everyone with a grin and smile, and was a faithful and loyal friend to all who knew him. He will be missed.

He leaves his wife, Marlene, residing in Mogote, and 3 children; Marta Sherman of Newport Beach, California, Michael Kennedy, of Sun City, California, and Martin Kennedy of Arvada, Colorado. He leaves 5 grand-children and 4 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Bill Kennedy of Orange, Ca, and a sister, Betty Starr of Bella Vista, Arkansas. He leaves a cousin in Aurora, Co. and other nephews and nieces.
