Marketing district supports SLV Tourism Association

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Local Marketing District and Tourism Board is forging ahead and encountering changes in 2019.

The board welcomed newly appointed member, Andrea Oaks Jaramillo. In addition, Kat Olance brought an update and funding request for the San Luis Valley Tourism Association.

Olance announced that the Colorado Tourism Office recently designated new regions for the state. As a result, the San Luis Valley will now have more recognition by way of being designated the “Mystic San Luis Valley” region. The new region will also include Huerfano County. Olance pointed out that she had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Huerfano County and noted that they are pleased with the change. Those who will oversee the new region will also seek to emphasize the heritage and culture of the region.

Olance made it clear that she sees this restructuring effort as a very positive change for San Luis Valley moving forward.

Following the update, Olance made the official request for a $6,000 contribution for 2019 from the district. After discussion, the board determined that continued support of the SLV Tourism Association is a worthwhile effort and voted unanimously to approve the request.
