Loyda P. Martinez, 83

Antonito resident Loyda P. Martinez, 83, passed away July 19, 2017 at the Conejos County Hospital under Hospice Care with her loving family by her side. Loyda was welcomed into the world on October 27, 1933 in San Miguel, New Mexico, the daughter of Solidea Duran Sisneros and Fortunato Sisneros. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Vernel B. Martinez on July 25, 1950. The two shared a long and happy union until his passing. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Our Lady of Guadalupe Choir, Lady of Fatima, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary post #2645, and was a retired Post Master of the Conejos Post Office. Loyda was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed serving in the church, sketching, going on walks, reading, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children Ruben (Mercy) Martinez of Alamosa, CO; Bernice Martinez (Craig Roush) of Longmont, CO; Yvette Martinez of Antonito, CO; Stanley B. Martinez of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Amy Martinez (Brad Pletzer) of Ft. Collins, CO; Rene (James) Stewart of Alamosa, CO; John Paul (Bobbi) Garcia of Antonito, CO; great grandchildren Carlos T. Martinez of Ft. Collins, CO; Riley James Stewart of Alamosa, CO; Alexis Nova Garcia of Antonito, CO; Jacoby Carlos Garcia of Antonito, CO; sisters Lena Conway of Lakewood, CO; Bertha Montoya of Centennial, CO; brothers Gerald (Theresa) Sisneros of Antonito, CO; Michael (Naomie) Sisneros of Mogote, CO; step-sisters Sherri and Gloria, step-brothers Anthony (Cindy) Marquez of Monte Vista, CO; Rick Sisneros of Salida, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Loyda was preceded in death by her loving husband Vernel B. Martinez, parents Solidea Duran Sisneros and Fortunato, and one brother Avenicio Sisneros.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 7:00PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday from 1-5PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. Arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
