Louise Sowards, 71

Louise Sowards was born June 20, 1946 in Alamosa, Colorado to Henry and Helen Bolger. She was raised on a ranch 5 miles south of Alamosa.

She graduated from Alamosa High School in 1964. She attended Adams State College from 1977-1978 and then attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction, graduating in May of 1980 with an Associate Degree of Science in Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She attended Regis University, graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree, then returned to the University of Colorado earning her Master’s degree in Nursing in 2008.

Louise married Carlyn Sowards of the family home March 26, 1964. She is survived by her husband Carlyn and three children: Jeff Sowards, Jodi (Eddie) Garcia and Jenna Sowards. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jessica (Ty) Curtis, Jennifer Garcia, Dillon and Dalton Sowards and Haleigh Helm; as well as one great grandchild Ryleigh Hardee and her cousin Martha Kinney. Also by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Louise loved nursing and teaching and had been teaching nursing for Trinidad State Junior College for the past many years.

She especially enjoyed the time spent with her family and treasured the times spent with her children and grandchildren at horse shows or Moto Cross races, often camping out by arenas throughout the state. She also enjoyed spending time riding her horse in the mountains with her husband Carlyn.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Louise’s family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 for a visitation at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Living Water Bible Fellowship Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Manassa Cemetery.
