Lola Ann Ford, 90

Longtime Alamosa resident Lola Ann Ford, 90, passed away peacefully in Alamosa surrounded by her family on April 13, 2017.

Lola was born in La Jara, Colorado on April 1, 1927, the daughter of Francis Sidney Orton and Mercie Florence Shawcroft Orton.  She graduated from La Jara High School, attended Adams State College where she received her secretarial certificate.  She married Lowell Dee Wood on May 8, 1949. To this union was born Marianne, Ramona and Vernon Dee Wood.  Dee died November 13, 1958.  She then married Raymond Dean Ford January 1, 1960. To this union was born one son, Franklin Lee Ford.

Lola worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company for 30 years.  She also worked as a flagman for Rocky Mountain Paving Company, drove a potato truck for Ford Farms, and also worked as a janitor/fill in receptionist for Motz Law Firm. 

Lola enjoyed entertaining, bowling, quilting, crocheting, embroidering, SCOUTING, FISHING, and reading.  She always had someone living with her as her home was open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a meal to eat or if someone just needed love and attention they were welcome in her home.

She never missed a ballgame where one of the kids, grandkids or great grandkids were playing. She even played sports herself taking part on bowling teams and was playing on a soft ball team when she was 75 years old.

Lola was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions within the church including Relief Society, Young Women’s, Sunday School Teacher and Dance Director.  Lola was a member of the Friends of the Library, and taught 4-H.  She was involved in scouting, both for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. She received her Silver Beaver and served on numerous Eagle Boards.

Lola is survived by her children, Marianne (Paul) Motz of Alamosa, Ramona Dutton of Alamosa, Franklin Lee (Penny) Ford of Weatherford, TX, and the grandson she raised, Raymond Dee Wood of Salmon, ID, and her brother, Kenneth (Nancy) Orton, of Colorado Spring. 11 Grandchildren: Deanne (Grant) Stephens, Jeffrey (Katherine) Motz, Kristi (Rob) Kern, Randena (Gabe) Hicks, Robert (Sandy) Dutton, Ryan (Meghan) Dutton, Resa (Tadd) Ormond, Ronna (Ed) Granillo, Hannah Ford. 29 Great Grandchildren: Annelin, Nalen, Caden, Julin, Ammon, Emily, Taylor, Michael, Sarah, Chloe, Cameron, Asher, Charles, Michelle, Bennett, Bailey, Brycen, Ethan, Harley, Wyatt, Wren, Romey, Freija, Rylynn, Savannah, Beckett, Everett, Daunte, and Ryder.

She is preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her son Vernon Dee Wood, son-in-law Randy Dutton, her grandson Roy Dutton, two brothers Keith and Burtron Orton, and her sister Beverly Clark.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa.  A Second Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 followed by a Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, both at the Alamosa Third Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3rd and Richardson Streets in Alamosa.  Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice del Valle, 514 Main St, Alamosa, CO 81101.
