Letter to the editor: Valentines for Veterans appreciated

The residents and staff of the Colorado Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake would sincerely like to thank each of you for remembering and supporting our veterans with Valentines, donations to the Resident Benefits Fund, and visits.

Once again, the response for Valentines for Vets was overwhelming. Schools, churches, volunteer organizations, veteran groups and individuals contributed during this holiday in many different ways. Special presentations, cards, and visits occurred throughout the week. Smiles of appreciation were abundant. If only I could express the unspoken words visible in our residents’ eyes, then you would know the positive impact your time and cards brought to our Home.

As the creator of this project, “Dear Abby”, once wrote in a column:

“Armed conflicts are painful to remember. As time has passed, many Americans have forgotten what was accomplished because of the sacrifices of the members of our armed forces to ensure our comfort, freedom and well-being. However, we must never forget - or allow our children to forget - our courageous veterans, both on the battlefield and behind the lines.”

Thank you fellow veterans throughout the Valley. We sincerely hope your day was as special as Homelake’s.

Thank you for remembering our residents. Thank you for renewing their pride and respect.

Sincerely,

Colorado Veterans Community Living Center - Homelake
