Letter to the editor: Thanks for making Family Fun Skate Night a success!

Over 50 families, including over 200 children and youth (and a few senior citizens!) participated in a Family Fun Skate Night on March 2. This event was planned and carried out as a joint effort between Alamosa School District, City of Alamosa Recreation Department and Alamosa Prevention Coalition. Skating and food were provided in order for families to have a fun evening together. Smiles and laughter were in abundance!

Events such as this are examples of how different organizations, businesses and individuals can combine their effort to create an opportunity for families to have quality time together. Research on substance use shows that family time together can reduce the risk of youth substance use. Alamosa School District, City of Alamosa Recreation Department and Alamosa Prevention Coalition remain committed to the youth in our community.

Special thanks to the Rec Center for donated skate time, to Ef’s Restaurant and the Dominguez family for providing and serving great food, AHS and OMS SADD students for their help, school nurse Darcey Hansen, and Ann-Marie Peterson and Kerrie Harris of Alamosa Public Health for taking care of the many details. Thanks also to the families who came to the event!

Sincerely,

Alamosa Prevention Coalition
