Letter to the Editor: Re: 'Witnesses Describe Fritz Murder,' (Valley Courier, Feb. 5)

The article published detailing the testimony of witnesses to the murder of Mathias Fritz on August 9th, 2018, paints a picture of a hardened criminal and long-time drug dealer, someone who you might think “had it coming”. This was not the case for Mathias Fritz. As the mother of his children and life-long friend, I can most certainly tell you different.

Mathias was a quiet and shy little boy, and remained that way towards most people until he got to know them. Once he became your friend, he was loyal and kindhearted; always offering a smile and good word. He was a generous man who would give the shirt off his back if needed. That never changed.

Mathias started roofing when he was 15 years old and continued to be one of the hardest working men I’ve ever known. He was a family man who always supported our daughters in every way a loving and devoted father would, and is still helping support them to this day, due to his astounding work ethic.

His memory will never fade or be tarnished in our daughters’ hearts, and the hearts of his family and friends, despite cold and harsh words from those who didn’t know him and the savage acts surrounding his murder. Mathias was one of the best people I’ve ever had the privilege to know and love, and it is a tragedy that he’s been taken from us all.
