Letter to the editor: Fir stage fundraiser successful

Sabrina Biggs, Tim Biggs and Ayanna Espinola’Neal along with American Legion Auxiliary National Chaplain Evelyn Espinola and VFW Post 899 Commander William Flores, VFW Post 899 Auxiliary President Nadia Flores, came together to help in any way they could to raise funds to help rebuild the stage up on Fir Mountain. A Benefit Spaghetti Dinner and Dance was planned for July 21st.

With the help of social media we asked for help with food donations and that we were in need of a band. Valley Meat, Safeway, City Market and Walmart donated gift cards so that we were able to buy the food. Several community members also donated salads and desserts. Through Facebook the band Maggie Rains and the Crooked Keys offered their time to play and also donated bottled water and soda. A silent auction was held with items from the American Legion Post 113 donated 11 cakes and the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad donated two sets of four tickets for a concert train ride.

The benefit was a success with many of the community that came and just donating money, and others staying to eat and enjoy the music. On August 12th we presented a check to Rio Grande Scenic Railroad in the amount of $550.

We would like to thank everyone that helped make this possible.
