Learn about birds with Cloverbuds on July 20

ALAMOSA – Valley youth ages 5 to 7 are invited to participate in Cloverbuds, a fun activity-focused youth development program, run by San Luis Valley 4-H. The July meeting will take place on Friday, July 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge in Alamosa, and will feature activities related to birds.

Participants will learn about bird characteristics, adaptations, and common local birds through hands-on activities and games. Kids will participate in a “Bird Olympics” where they will compare their own skills against those of various birds. They’ll also make bird masks and go on a bird walk.

Kids do not need to be 4-H members to attend this event. The cost is $10 per child, and includes snacks and materials. Youth must RSVP to the Extension office by Wednesday, July 18 if they’d like to participate, as space and materials are limited. Call 719-852-7381 or e-mail [email protected] to register.

The group will meet at the Alamosa Wildlife Visitors Center at 9383 El Rancho Ln, Alamosa, at 9:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars if they have them, and budget time to explore the refuge after the session.

The Cloverbuds group is planning additional field trips this summer and fall to learn about farm animals and outdoor recreation. If you’d like to be added to the Cloverbuds mailing list to get information about these offerings, email [email protected].
