Alamosa former Antonito/Colorado Springs resident Jose Valdamar Lopez, 85, passed away peacefully July 31, 2017 at the Evergreen Nursing Home with his loving family right by his side. Jose was welcomed into the world on September 4, 1931 in San Antonio, Colorado; the son of Jose Simon Lopez and Rebecca Ruybal Lopez. Jose was an amazing and loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend who worked many years as a barber, where he spent countless hours gracing the people of the community with his haircuts and amazing personality. Jose was also an entertainer as a musician, a vocalist as well as a ventriloquist. When he wasn't working he enjoyed playing the guitar, going fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his brother Salomon Lopez of Antonito, CO; sister Emilia (Florentino) Tafoya of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents Jose Simon and Rebecca Lopez, sisters Rosa Lopez, Inez Trujillo, Consuelo Lopez, Clarita Lopez, Rosalvina Lopez and brothers Dionicio Lopez, Juan Lopez, Salomon Lopez II.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
