Jessac Mathias Murphy Baird

Alamosa resident Jessac Mathias Murphy Baird, 38, died September 9, 2022 at his home in Alamosa.

Jessac was born in Del Norte, Colo., on April 24, 1984, to Douglas Baird and Cynthia Murphy Baird. He married his best friend, the girl across the street and the love of his life, Rachel Doyle, on August 16, 2014 in Monte Vista, Colo.

Jessac attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He was pursuing a dual degree in philosophy and computer science. Jessac loved music and enjoyed a subgenre of hardcore punk primarily distinguished by its lyrical focus on the Christian themes and values that defined him. He had aspirations of becoming a pastor or using his philosophy to spread the word of Christ and hope. Jessac was a brilliant theologian, philosopher, mathematician, and read his Bible daily.  He also enjoyed playing music and reading poetry.

Jessac loved camping and hiking and Rock Creek and Comstock were especially special to him.  Jessac is remembered as having a great sense of humor, a beautiful laugh, and even regularly laughed aloud in his sleep.

He is survived by his wife Rachel Baird of Alamosa; his parents Doug and Cynthia Baird of Monte Vista; his mother-in-law Stephanie Doyle of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; his siblings Justin (Mikayla) Baird of Monte Vista, Josiah (Christin Henry) Baird of Wadsworth, Ohio; his close friends Alex Pugh of California, and Josh Terrill of Alamosa; his nephew Iain, and his godchildren, nephew Gavin and niece Teagyn. He is also survived by his good friend and brother-in-law Joey Doyle, his sisters-in-law Lindsay and Sarah, and his niece-in-law Bella. He is especially missed by his five faithful furbabies, and his dream dog, a border collie named Kaiya.

Jessac is preceded in death by his grandparents Warren and his beloved grandma, Eleanor Murphy.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held 11:17 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 52 El Rio Drive, in Alamosa, Colorado.  Inurnment will follow services in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
