Jerry Reed Memorial Chess Tournament underway at AHS

ALAMOSA — Eric Robinson, a tenth grader at Alamosa High School organized a Jerry Reed Memorial Chess tournament that began last week. 

Twelve students and teachers signed up to play chess in memory of Jerry Reed, a beloved former teacher from Alamosa High School.

Reed inspired countless students of all ages and ability levels to play chess. Eric met him last fall when he was attempting to organize a chess tournament between high school and elementary students and was moved to initiate the memorial tournament.

Participants are Hunter Daboll, Eric Robinson, Isaiah De La Cerda, Jonas Akudago, Crystal Hatfield, Josiah Shown, Cody Cooper, Billy Krebs, Mr. Marquez, Mr. Skinner, Mr. Relyea, and Mr. Greenfield.
