Jeremy Elliott

Jeremy Elliott, the Executive Director of the Costilla County Economic Council passed away unexpectedly Sunday Oct. 3, 2021.

Jeremy was also a well-known and gifted nature photographer. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Sue and Jay Elliott on June 22, 1980, Jeremy moved from Boston to Colorado Springs where he attended the University of Colorado, studying political science. He then moved to Garcia, Colorado to help his mother, who was going through cancer treatments. After her loss, Jeremy relocated to San Luis to help manage the nonprofit, Ventero Open Press Fine Art. Who knew that someday the quiet, introverted child would become so pivotal in the lives of so many in the remote Hispanic village of San Luis, Colorado?

He received his first professional camera, which launched his career as a poetic contemporary photographer. He received a sizable commission from the Colorado Arts Council (Colorado Creative Industries) for his images of The Great Sand Dunes, which hang in Richardson Hall at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.  His photography will be featured on a 2021 album release by an internationally acclaimed pianist.

Devoted to the people of his community, he took on the task of being the executive director of the Costilla County Economic Development Council in 2018.

He advocated and managed a number of sizable countywide projects that will hopefully still blossom in his absence. He joins his mother, Sue Elliott on the other side and is survived by his grandmother, uncle and father Jay Elliott, several cousins, aunts and uncles, and his feisty companion, his cat, Mocha. Those people reading this who only knew big, tough Jeremy, may not have known that he was an avid gardener, horse whisperer and religiously sought to capture every sunset.

Jeremy’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Sangre de Cristo Heritage Center in San Luis, Colorado on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2 pm.
