Jeff Woodward, 62

Longtime Alamosa resident Jeffrey Eugene Woodward “Papa Jeff” 62, passed away in his home on August 1, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family.  Jeff was born on February 22, 1956 to Clyde and Edith Woodward in Utah.

Jeff worked many jobs throughout his life. He was a very successful entrepreneur and owned multiple businesses throughout his years in Alamosa including Alamosa Sporting Goods, Everything Wireless and Woody’s Q Shack. The work he was most proud of would have to be working for the railroad.  He was a conductor and a brakeman for over twenty years of his life and had a passion for trains until the day of his passing.

When Jeff wasn’t working he was putting countless hours back into the community, bringing good times and big smiles to everyone he met.  He was a member of the Tourism & Marketing board here in Alamosa for twenty-five years and was able to see the town flourish because of it.  Many people will always remember Jeff as being the voice in the trailer during the Annual Early Iron car show here in Alamosa.  He was a member of the Early Iron Club for over thirty years, and has served as president for the past thirteen years.

Although Jeff was a busy man with work, volunteering, and church callings, he never missed a chance to spend time with his family and his grandchildren.  It wasn’t uncommon for Jeff and Melanie to drive all night just to see one of their grandchildren perform in a concert or to watch an hour-long ball game, or even just to have a fifteen minute lunch during Grandparents Day.  Jeff may have been a pillar in the community but he was so much more to his family, and he loved each one of them more than Trains and Hot Rods combined.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Melanie Woodward of the family home in Alamosa.  His children; Tanya (Shane) Allen of Canon City, Colorado; Kyle (Michelle) Woodward of Alamosa, Colorado; and Penni (Greg) Shalberg of Sheridan Lake, Colorado.  His grandchildren; Laci Tecklenburg, Kyler Chick, Kase Shalberg, Dyson Woodward, and Keenon Woodward.  His siblings; Aubrey Clair “Woody” Woodward of Grand Junction, Colorado; and Albert Clyde (Renee) Woodward of West Jordan, Utah.  His Mother in Law, Frankie Glynn.  As well as numerous other extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Clyde and Edith Woodward.  As well as his favorite yellow lab, “Tripper”.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa.  A second visitation will be held at Alamosa Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 927 Weber Dr. in Alamosa, Colorado on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will follow services at the Alamosa Cemetery.
