James Jude Lucero

Longtime valley resident James Jude Lucero, 38, passed away on November 11, 2021.  He was born on August 5, 1983 in Alamosa, Colorado to James Lucero and Carla Abeyta.  James graduated from Centauri High School and went on to attend Wyoming Technical College (Wyo Tech) to further his education in auto body repair.  James had a passion for anything on wheels and he especially loved old trucks, tow trucks and demolition derbies.  He married Julia Quintana on December 23, 2012.  James loved to be outdoors, especially fishing, arrowhead hunting and barbecuing with his family.  His greatest love was his wife, his children and the Las Vegas Raiders.

James is survived by his wife Julia Quintana, his children, Frank Velasquez, Jade Lucero and Jazlynn Lucero, grandchildren, Luz-Elena Velasquez and Marcos Velasquez, his parents, James Lucero, Sr. and Carla Abeyta, his siblings, Laticia “Mona” Lucero, Deanna Lucero, Michael Garcia and Steven Garcia (Samantha Armenta), his aunts and uncles, Monical Jussel, Tammy Barela, Natalie Gallegos, Anthony Jiron, Joe Jiron, Randy Abeyta, Dwayne Abeyta and Donald Lucero as well as his God-Daughter Jamie Garcia and numerous other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Angie Lucero and Harold “Babes” and Bertha Abeyta, his uncle Eddie Lucero and God Mother Geneva Gurule.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday November 18, 2021 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday November 19, 2021 also at the church.  Interment will follow the service in the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa.  To express condolences, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com
