James D. Yates (Jim)

DEL NORTE — James D. Yates (Jim), 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Jim was born on July 24, 1940, in San Diego, CA to Marcus P. and Virlee (Slade) Yates.

Jim spent his younger days in Del Norte, CO where he graduated from high school in 1958. He was visiting the Del Norte area when he met the love of his life, Linda L. Fisher, who became his wife on November 14, 1959, in Englewood, CO.

Jim worked in many different positions before spending eight years as part owner of Jaho Hardware in Del Norte. After which Jim accepted a position at Agland in Eaton, CO starting his Agriculture Co-op career. From Eaton, he became a career General Manager in Indianola, NE; Shenandoah, IA and Stratton, CO where he retired in 2004.

During retirement, Jim and Linda, with the help of their children and grandchildren, built a home in Cheyenne, WY where they lived for 10 years before moving to Greeley to be closer to their family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda; sons: Jim Yates, Jr. (Gwen Gablehouse), Marty (Jolene) Yates, Mark (Denise) Yates; grandchildren: Catherine (Jeremey) Lytle, Sean Yates, Andrea (Ben) Jones, Tylor (Ally) Yates; great-grandchildren: Liam Lytle, Parker Yates, Arlo Jones; siblings: Barbara Cooper, Debbie Siefkas and Tami Smiley.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sandy Stogstill, Madia Proctor, Bob Yates, Wayne Yates, Marcus Yates, Jr.

Jim was a “car guy” who enjoyed attending car shows and swap meets. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. Jim also enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing with his sons and grandson.

Jim’s wish was for no services; he was cremated and interred in Del Norte, CO.
